Life at The Pupil · Makerspace & Robotics

Dream it.
Build it.

In the Makers Space, students design, build and test their own ideas with robots, 3D printers and real workshop tools.

Every invention starts as a sketch and a question: what if? In the Makers Space, children take an idea out of their heads and into their hands. They plan it, build it, break it and build it better.

What making builds in every child

Four ways
to grow.

Children testing a model globe together.

Planning.

Before the first cut or line of code, children learn to break a big idea into small steps.

Resilience.

When a design does not work, each attempt reveals what to try next.

Teamwork.

Real projects need many hands. Students share ideas, divide the work and listen.

Invention.

Students spot things around them that could work better, then build and test their solutions.

Inside the Makers Space

Find what
they’ll build.

Robotics, 3D design and carpentry create different ways to turn a question into something real.

Students explore robots that move, sense and react. Along the way, they investigate circuits, sensors and how code connects a device to its surroundings.

Students learn to create digital models, test shapes and understand how a 3D printer produces a physical object from a design.

Students practise measuring, shaping and joining materials, developing patience, precision and an understanding of safe workshop practice.

Making as they grow

Skills that
grow with them.

Children start by tinkering and, step by step, move on to design projects with the tools and guidance appropriate to their stage.

  1. Getting started

    Tinker and explore.

Children build with blocks, cardboard and simple machines, finding out how things work by taking them apart and putting them together.

  2. Growing skills

    Design with purpose.

Students research a problem, sketch ideas, build a solution and test how well it works.

  3. Going further

    Projects of their own.

As their confidence grows, students can take on more independent projects and develop their own ideas.

Talk to admissions
A teacher guiding students using a laptop and robotics materials.
What can students explore in the Makers Space?
The page presents robotics and IoT, 3D design and printing, and carpentry. Please confirm current workshop availability with the admissions team.
Does my child need to know coding already?
No previous coding experience is needed to begin introductory making activities. Teachers guide students through age-appropriate tasks.
When can children start making?
Making can begin with simple building and tinkering. As children grow, the tools and challenges can become more advanced.
How is workshop safety managed?
Equipment and activities are matched to the child’s age and training, with teacher supervision. Ask the school about its current safety protocols.
Is making part of the school timetable?
The school can explain how Makers Space activities currently fit into its learning programmes and timetables.
Can we see the Makers Space when we visit?
Ask the admissions team which workshop spaces are available to visit and what is planned for the new campus.
