PYP policy
Academic integrity.
Honesty and fairness in learning.
The Pupil International School aims to widen intellectual horizons, nurture individual expression and foster the values of honesty and fairness.
This policy asks students to understand their reference material, cite their sources correctly, form and express their own point of view, develop their originality and take pride in their own work.
Living by these standards builds a community where ideas are shared openly and with trust. A breach of academic integrity harms the person who commits it, weakens learning and assessment, and discredits the school.
Roles and responsibilities
The policy depends on a shared effort from everyone in the school.

- Know the Academic Integrity Policy.
- Create an environment where academic integrity is expected and respected.
- Give clear guidelines for each assignment: whether students work alone or in groups, whether they may take help from peers, parents or other adults, and whether they may use outside references.
- Evaluate assignments fairly.
- Detect and properly handle breaches of academic integrity.
Students

Violations

- Presenting work done by others as one’s own.
- Working with peers on an individual assignment.
- Taking help from other students, parents or other adults when told not to.
- Having or using unauthorised material, such as textbooks, notes or electronic devices, during exams.
- Falsifying data or signatures in assignments and official documents, such as portfolios and report cards.
- Interfering with or obstructing the work of other students.
- Helping other students to breach the policy.
Consequences
Depending on how serious the breach is, teachers may take one or more of these steps.
- Ask the student to redo the assignment.
- Lower the grade.
- Give a failing grade.
- Inform the PYP Coordinator, the Principal or the Director.
- Meet the student’s parent or guardian.
- Ask for a letter of assurance that the breach will not be repeated.
- Make a permanent note in the student’s record.
Any further step is taken only after discussion with the student, the teacher, the parent or guardian and the relevant authority.
